Shining a Spotlight on Mental Health: Centacare NQ's Initiatives for Queensland Mental Health Week
At Centacare North Queensland, we're dedicated to supporting mental health and wellbeing in our community, and this October, we’re amplifying our efforts in recognition of Queensland Mental Health Week (QMHW). ‘Core to our work is “Wellbeing for All’ and Centacare NQ is stepping up our support for community in the coming months’ said Paula Washington, Centacare NQ’s Executive Director.
“This annual awareness week is a crucial opportunity to highlight the importance of mental health for individuals, workplaces and communities alike”
Workplace Wellbeing
This October Centacare NQ will host our third Big Blue Table Breakfast, bringing together local businesses and community members to focus on mental health and wellbeing in the workplace. We understand that the workplace plays a significant role in an individual's mental health, and we are committed to providing resources, insights and support to help create positive work environments. This year we are delighted to announce our guest speaker Dr Jo Lukins who will present on Championing Wellbeing: The Workplace Guide to a Thriving Team. This event not only offers a chance to discuss crucial topics but also provides an opportunity for networking and community building, all while enjoying a delicious breakfast.
Empowering the Community with Training
Beyond the Big Blue Table Breakfast, Centacare NQ is also offering essential mental health training throughout October/November 2024:
- Youth Mental Health First Aid Courses: These sessions are designed to equip adult participants with the skills to support young people experiencing mental health issues. Whether you're a teacher, parent, or community worker, this course will empower you to make a difference.
TOWNSVILLE: 29-30 October 2024
MOUNT ISA: 13-14 November 2024 - Standard Mental Health First Aid Course: Open to adults, this course provides valuable knowledge and practical skills to help someone in a mental health crisis or who is developing a mental health problem, until the crisis resolves, or professional help arrives.
TOWNSVILLE: 2-3 October 2024 - ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training): This intensive, two-day workshop is crucial for anyone aged 16 years+ who wants to learn how to intervene and support someone at risk of suicide. We’re running two ASIST sessions, one in Townsville and one in Mount Isa, furthering our commitment to saving lives through awareness and action.
TOWNSVILLE: 23-24 September 2024
MOUNT ISA: 22-23 October 2024
